How is the African Names Database related to the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade database?
Almost all the slave vessels captured by British naval cruisers are already in the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Database (TSTD). The second variable in the African Names Database is the voyage identification number in the TSTD, the fourth variable is the ship’s name, and the sixth variable is the year of arrival at the port, in Havana or Sierra Leone, where the case of the captured slave ship was adjudicated. The TSTD provides information on where the slaves embarked in Africa and where they were intended to disembark in the Americas had the slave ships been allowed to complete their voyages.
