How is the modern Thanksgiving different from the original Thanksgiving?
Thanksgiving is very different today than it was in the time of the pilgrims. The pilgrims wanted to separate entirely from the Anglo-Saxon Church (of England). They had come to Plymouth rock, not because of a storm. There was no storm the weather was fair. They came to Plymouth because conditions in Virginia were harsh and they would not have religious freedom there. They did not have the best relations with the Indians-actually Squanto, had known of a tribe that had died and still had there food and village left…he told the pilgrims that they could have the food because it was November when they arrived and it was much too late to plant. This was Thanksgiving the true story of Thanksgiving. Squanto taught them to plant and fish although it is not known how true that is. Thanksgiving has become a fictitious story so sad to say. The pilgrims gave thanks to God for the food Squanto let them have.
