How is the PTCE passing score determined?
A panel of content experts establishes a passing score for the PTCE using appropriate standard setting procedures, under the guidance of PES. The passing score for the PTCE is criterion referenced rather than normative; that is, it is based on a standard of performance that experts in the profession have determined to be acceptable for certification. It is not based on a “curve” as are some academic tests.
