How long can a person go with chlamydia without knowing they have it and can someone have it for a long time and not give it to their partner?
I am a RN so I would like to this question for you. In many persons, this disease is silent, there are no signs or symptoms. A person could go several years with the disease and not know it but eventually chlamydia in a woman will turn into pelvic inflammatory disease and cause abdominal pain. This silent STD can scar the fallopian tubes and the woman can become infertile. I personally had chlamydia at age 17 and only found out because I went to a family planning appointment at a local Health Unit and they tested me while doing a pelvic exam. My boyfriend and I both took the antibiotic Erythromycin to clear up the infection. I think the drug they are giving now is Zithromax, which is sometimes given as a one time 1 gram dose. Anyone with this STD can give it to a sex partner even the first time they have sex. An estimated 2.8 million people contract chlamydia each year. Also, it can be passed to infant’s during a vaginal delivery a cause pneumonia and blindness.
