It depends on when you have sex in relation to when you ovulate. It takes a few minutes to a few hours for the seprm to swim up into your tubes. If the egg is there waiting, fertilization would happen immediately. If you have sex before ovulation, the sperm would wait (sperm can live for about 5 days) for the egg to arrive, then they’d meet up. You usually release one egg per cycle. Occassionally you may release two or more — if both are fertilized, that’s fraternal twins/triplets.
