We prefer to have one week to ten days to clean skins. This allows for proper examination to determine the best cleaning process, and sufficient time for re-cleaning, color touch up and finishing. At Harris we use four different machines, each with tanks of solvent which maintain color. We then clean by color batches, meaning that blacks are cleaned with other blacks. This is to protect color. Because the garments are cleaned in machines with agitation, heavy garments are also not mixed with lighter, more fragile garments. Thus the actual cleaning part of the process may take a full day.
