How long does it take to train a reining horse?

0

All horses learn at a different pace, so there are no hard and fast rules; however, in order to take a 3 year old to a futurity, most trainers put an average of 18 to 20 months of training on them. Some horses are still not capable of running a full pattern as a 3 year old, and wait till their 4 year old year. So I often need to remind people that you can not fully train a horse in 4 to 6 months. It honestly takes years to make a completely finished horse, and even then they will get rusty without proper upkeep on their training.
