How long on average does a new puppy cry for at night?

Every time I’ve had a new pup, I just put him in bed with me and they never cry. All they need is the warmth and comfort of another animal/person and they’re fine. Imagine if you were a little baby and someone took you from your mom and your siblings and then trucked you to a new home with no mom and no sibs and then stuck you in a ratty old box with a loud clock and a hot piece of rubber for company. You’d cry to. Take the pup to bed with you and he’ll be fine. When he has to piddle or poo, he’ll wake you when he gets up, so you can take him outside. After a week or so, he was happy to sleep in his own bed (I’d usually throw in a cat for company), and because the house wasn’t ‘new’ to him anymore and he was used to the sounds of the family, he’d settle right in and sleep through the night no problem.

I slept with my boy from the first night I bought him home. He never cried once. He used to wriggle during the night when he wanted the loo and I took him out. He never had accidents in my bed. He’s 20 months old now and still sleeps on my bed. He’s the best behaved dog Ive ever owned and we share such a bond. My breeder wrote me a note when I picked my pup up at 8 weeks old. She said ” I don’t like to reccommend this but with my staffys I let them sleep with us when they were pups to settle in and they never cried”. So I did the same. I love having him on my bed. Keep a matress protector on you bed. If you wake during the night and your pup is still asleep take him/her to the toilet anyway. You will get in a habit of waking at the same time every night. You may get the odd accident but who cares? Bigger things in the world to worry about. Your pup will feel secure and part of the family. My cousin just has the same prob with a pup I bought for her from a homeless guy. It kept crying a

our new springer spaniel puppy (7weeks) only cried for a few minutes on sunday night – his first night with us – we put teddy (which he bought from his first home) and hot water bottle in his box and he slept all night – although he must have got up to do a couple of pooh’s!!!!! (We left night light on in kitchen) He was not happy in the morning when he woke up and remembered he was not at home but on the second night he was fine. he is gorgeous and nuaghty but giving my sick dad a second lease of life.
