How long will the application process take?
Our aim is to continue to process straightforward applications within ten working days once we have received the required documentation and the fee. But the production process, particularly in the initial weeks, will inevitably be slightly longer and delays may occur. We therefore strongly advise applicants to apply well in advance of any planned date of travel.
After the Federal Processing Agency receives your FAFSA, it will take approximately 4-6 weeks to process your application. If you apply through FAFSA on the web (at www.fafsa.ed.gov) it will take approximately 2-4 weeks. You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) which will inform you to check the status of your federal application. You may present it to the Financial Aid Office for review to determine your aid eligibility.
If you inquire about financial assistance before the actual services are provided, we can begin processing your application and reviewing your documentation. A final decision regarding eligibility and the amount of your possible fee reduction will be made when final charges are calculated. Once you submit all required documentation, the North Shore-LIJ Health System Financial Assistance Unit will verify information and make a decision within thirty (30) days. Once you have submitted a completed application and documentation, you can disregard all statements you receive until a final decision is rendered.
