Ninety percent of the classes at U.Va. are taught by faculty members. The other instructors are teaching assistants who are usually Ph.D. candidates. Teaching assistants lead weekly discussion groups and teach introductory-level English composition and foreign language. The University’s Teaching Resource Center sponsors a number of workshops to enhance teaching techniques for all University instructors.
