How many stair stringers would I need to make for an average height, 3 foot wide staircase?

As long as the stair stringers are at least 1 1/4 inches wide, there is only need for one central stair stringer in addition to the two that run alongside. Generally, I would use stringers of the aforementioned width for optimum support in staircases of average height (118 inches).
