How many types of grasshoppers?
Bear in mind that these grasshoppers are only a small, representative sampling of the many species you may encounter. Not all insects and not all grasshoppers are harmful to your garden plants. If you encounter a species of grasshopper in your garden that you do not recognize, try to capture a live specimen and use an insect guidebook to identify it. You can also take the insect to your local college biology department or to a local plant nursery for identification. If the insect is no threat to your garden, there’s no reason to kill it or to drive it away.
