how many women develop breast cancer who have never had a mammogram?
not sure of the specific statistics. if the concern is whether mammography is causing breast cancer it is not… the dosage of radiation is low and equal to you driving in a car for 500 miles– you get the same radiation exposure in the environment according to studies published by the ACS. that said, we do know that women getting annual mammography are diagnosed with early breast cancer compared to those getting diagnosed without having had mammograms before and not uncommon to be diagnosed at a later stage. mammography remains the best method for early detection.
