How Much Can A Propeller Plane Hold?
“Propeller planes” range in size from single-person sport planes that can essentially carry nothing but the pilot and a few gallons of fuel up through heavy cargo aircraft that can carry more than a hundred thousand pounds of cargo. Most 4-engine propeller driven cargo planes carry around 45,000 to 50,000 pounds of payload. The C-118 I used to fly had a payload of 47,000 pounds. If the Cessna 172 is a “typical” single engine airplane, the useful load is about 750 pounds, which translates to a pilot and one passenger, a couple of suitcases, and full tanks of fuel. So it’s up to you. You have to tell us what kind of airplane you have in mind.
