How much detail should the assignment report contain on the methods I used?
The description should summarise what you did. In the scenarios used for the assignment, your report is written to provide information for non-GIS users in an organisation. Methods sections should describe the steps undertaken with enough detail that there is no doubt what was done, BUT do not bore your readers with “button clicks”. It is best to give an example of how a method could be written up. This is an example of how the method could be described for the steps done on pages 8-4 and 8-5 of the practical book.
