How much water do large Birds of Paradise plants need?
Brown, flaky leaves can be a sign of too much or too little water. Press your finger into the soil around the plant to feel for dampness and water the bird of paradise only when the top inch of soil is dry. For potted birds of paradise, ensure adequate drainage with plenty of holes in the pot bottom and base. Never allow the bird of paradise to sit in wet soggy soil, whether in a planter or in the garden.
