How primary AIDS prevention is covered by the French press?
GROUND: There were several different foci in France concerning primary AIDS prevention in the press. This is due to the different institutions working on the subject (Aids Community, Public institutions, researchers, journalists). Our goal is to understand how these different points of view approached the subject. METHODS: My methodology was to analyze the range of coverage in five different written venues (Le Monde, Le Figaro, Liberation, l’Humanite, Le Parisien) with seven more specialized medical periodicals. The next step was interviewing journalists to understand how and in which conditions information was produced. RESULTS: New treatments have mostly been the subject of articles concerning primary prevention. This information relayed in these articles is controversial within the scientific community.
