How safe is traveling and residing in Southeast Asia?
A. Our participants who have experienced Southeast Asia for the first time often find themselves feeling even safer than they do in their home countries. Southeast Asian cultures are generally very relaxed and the people friendly and anxious to communicate with you. Despite this, as with anywhere in the world, certain precautions, must be taken. You should avoid traveling to areas alone. Always travel with a partner. Keep your valuables in a well protected wallet or purse that is not easily accessible. Zippered and/or Velcro pockets are as close to a 100% deterrent to a would-be pick-pocket as you can find. Dont be in a hurry to cross the street; take your time. Relax, let the culture come to you and you will find your fears subsiding. Southeast Asia, as all places, has its own rhythm. Slip into it, while using good judgment and you will find Southeast Asia to be a safe and delightful place.
