How should I evaluate basic quality features of a trailer?
Examine the quality of material used and how they interact with each other to provide sound structural integrity. Verify the thickness of steel used such as 12 gauge versus 14 gauge or 16 gauge. The lower the number the thicker the material. A strong steel frame is complemented with quality interior wall, floor panels and exterior sheeting. These components work together as one unit to provide the necessary strength. You also need to consider the form of steel members used and the overall structural design. Very strong steel members spaced too far apart to save on assembly costs will not be as strong as slightly lighter steel with optimum spacing of members and good design. A heavy steel frame with only few welding points is not ideal. Ask for structural design details and examine them closely. Ask yourself, is this a volume-oriented production or a quality-oriented production. To sell a large number of units, quality is often neglected in order to sell for less.
