First of all, contrary to what a few of the other answerers have said…do not close your shoes in a door. Do not put water on them. Do not hit them against a wall. And do not manually bend them. That’s what professional ballerinas do when they need their shoes asap for a show or whatever. For you, who’s just starting pointe, it’s not a good thing to be doing because then your shoes aren’t broken in to your feet, they’re broken in to whatever shape the door, wall or area on the shank that you put water. Trust me, I made that mistake with my first pair of pointe shoes…it wasn’t good. Walking around with socks over them is good because you don’t want to break them in that quickly, you just want to get them a little bit worked into, and theres a difference. With the socks over them, not only do your pointe shoes not get dirty, but it makes your feet sweat (kind of gross, I know) and sweat helps the shoes mold to your feet a little bit more.
