To see what exactly caused the error: Click on Start, go to Settings, Control Panel, System and Maintenance, Problem Reports and Solutions, View Problem History and then double-click on the COM surrogate error. Then have a look at the Fault Module Name item. Workarounds: • Open the DivX Decoder configuration and uncheck Use advanced hardware overlay. • Don’t install the DivX decoder or disable it with the K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool and use ffdshow instead to decode DivX video. • Disable the Nero MPEG-1/2/4 & AVC video decoder filter (NeVideo.ax) with the K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool.Solution: • Disable thumbnail generation in Windows Vista.
