How to get rid of mildew on the ceiling in my bathroom??

Go to your public library and look for one of those “how to clean everything books.” See what it recommends for removing mildew. I found a website about mildew from the University of Missouri. It gives an extensive discussion of what mildew is, how it gets started and how to get rid of it. Check the website below.

I had this same problem in my bathroom and it was also there before I moved in. I don’t know how bad yours is but my ceiling and walls over my shower were completely black (very gross and dangerous) fortunately I also rent and had my landlord come and clean it off but after about a month it came back. So they had to completely replace the walls in my bathroom. That is the only way to prevent it from coming back. It’s been almost a year and no mold has came back.

You should insist and demand that the apartment management clean up the mold or mildew as it is considered a toxic growth. It cannot grow without a moisture source, so I would first insist they addresss that. Is there a exhaust fan installed in the bathroom? If not, one should be installed to help dehumidify the bathroom. A solution of 1 part bleach to 5 parts water should kill the existing mold or mildew. However, live mold spores are likely present in your apartment, so it may return if the other issues are not addressed. Also check your air vents for mold and make sure they are not recirculating spores throughout all the rooms of your apt. Finally, I would purchase a mold test kit from Lowes or Home Depot and do a mold test (about $9.00) to see how prevelent it is in this apt. If it is heavily inundated, I would seriously consider moving as mold presence is legal ground for breaking a lease. If the mold is present, it can and will get into all of your possessions and will follow you

Spray bottle filled with half bleach, half water. Spay on mildew. Let dry.
