How to improve javelin throw?
Emily, It would help if you could update this with a description of how your javelin flies. I’ll try to give you some basic information first: Throw hard: this may seem obvious, but the jav isn’t going to fly if you don’t use an aggresive motion. It’s easy to be scared off when you see an odd flight, but holding back isn’t the answer. Throw through the point. All my throwers nod their head the first time I say this, but they can’t explain it until they do it. You need to imagine that when you release the jav there’s this little ring that the point goes through. You want the whole javelin to fit through that hole. That will mean that all of the force is “in line” and it will fly straight. Don’t rely on Muscle: Most throwers try to throw the jav like a softball or a football. Doesn’t work (at least not as well as correct motion). You want to use your body’s natural elasticity to throw (like a baseball pitcher whose arm bends in ways his muscle couldn’t make him).
