How to read Japanese letters?

0

Hello, I have a text file of Japanese words (written in Japanese). I want to import this file to Matlab and put into a matrix. I can read the file but the problem is, the letters appear as some gibberish. I tried writing the imported word to a excel but it still shows the same gibberish. But I can write Japanese letters in the Matlab command window. But if I do like: A = ‘あああ’ (Japanese characters within quotes), I get the answer: A= A blank space. I was wondering if there is anyway I can read Japanese words from a file into Matlab. What I really want to do is to import some Japanese words into Matlab, and randomize the order of the words and then write back to a text file. Any suggestions are greatly welcome. Thank you.
