There is a product you can buy called ez-Release earring remover. Go to www.earringremover.com.

The earrings that you have in your ears right now, are “starter” earrings. The gauge (the thing that you put in your ear) is usually bigger than a normal earrings gauge. Starter earrings usually have a backing that can be hard to take off. Grab the front part of the earring, and grab the back part and pull. You will most likely have to really grab the back part with your fingernails to get it off. If you still have problems, ask a friend to take them out for you.

The backs of normal stud earrings pull off. Get another pair first, and pull the back off so you have an idea how much force it takes. My piercing studs have quite a large “bump” to keep the back on, so need a bit of a tug. Other earrings have just a little narrowing where the back sits, and the backs come off very easily. The part of the earring that’s been “in” the hole in your ear may be a bit gunky when you take them out. Just wash them with soap and water, or clean with whatever you have been using to clean your ears since they were pierced. Just remember that if you do this in or over a sink, put the plug in first!
