How to Subtract Negative Numbers?
When adding or subtracting negative numbers there are two simple rules to memorize: Two of the same make a positive (see example 1) and secondly, two different make a negative (see example 2).Ex. 1) When you are adding or subtracting two like (both positive or both negative) numbers such as 3 + 5, or 7 – 2, the answer is always going to be a positive.Ex. 2) When you are adding or subtracting two different numbers (one negative and one positive) such as (-5) + 2 or (-5) – 8, the answer is always going to be negative.
