How useful is the desiccant dehumidifier in the preservation of fruits and vegetables?
Dehydrated fruits and vegetables are highly hygroscopic in nature and once exposed to humid environment will regain moisture, thus leading to agglomeration and spoilage due to fungus growth. Humidity control before & during packaging the dehydrated foods, will keep them fresh. For preservation of some fresh vegetable like onions and other crops, both temperature and humidity needs to be controlled, and dehumidifiers can be installed in cold storages to maintain the necessary conditions. For actual conditions to be maintained, for various items, please refer to ASHRAE Guidelines or call our application engineer.
