How was Napoleon Bonaparte a Dictator?
He crowned himself emperor, had a vast network of secret police under the direction of Joseph Fouche, shut down several newspapers, intercepted letters and censored them, fought several wars that the people had little or no say in, and used conscription in the military. He made war on the rest of Europe and beat them on several occasions, making Napoleon a source of hatred and bitterness for these nations. This made him a dictator in the eyes of the rest of the world.
