How was the IHI developed, and by whom?
The IHI is based on measuring, assessing and goal-setting in commonly identified risk factors, such as blood pressure, smoking prevention or cessation, blood glucose levels, triglycerides and LDL (cholesterol). It was developed by IHS in conjunction with a group of physician employees of the company. An IHI score, therefore, is strictly based on a review of data in these areas, and is completely subjective and fact-based. Employees are grouped by data points into no-risk, low-risk and high-risk following a thorough evaluation, and steps for improvement or maintenance are communicated to each person.
