The Department of Information Technology has acquired the latest in filtering, firewall and intrusion detection technology to protect the individual privacy of students and library patrons throughout the State. The technology will allow granular control of Internet content filtering and will also assure that people on the Internet cannot identify or scan individuals data on the network. From a security perspective, CEN is assuming that only Web content will be filtered at differential levels in K12, library and higher education environments. All other traffic, like FTP, News, Telnet, and similar services will be allowed in the higher education facilities but will be generally restricted in K-12 and library environments. Exceptions to all policies will be allowed, based on written requests for lighter security from the requesting entity, unless the Commission directs otherwise.
