How will the data quality be measured and ensured?

In widely used LCA databases a broad range of qualitative and quantitative data quality measures and indicators is in use. Quantitative measures should address also the always applied methodological assumptions; otherwise quantitative uncertainty ranges will be misleading; methodological work is still required here. Data quality is best addressed by a combination of quantitative and qualitative aspects and supported by a qualified and strict independent review, which is not yet existing in LCA practice. These findings were also concluded in a large LCA data quality WS in October 2004. A respective approach is hence likely for the LCI data in the ELCD database. It has to be stressed, that the first version of the ELCD LCI database does not yet reflect such requirements, as the approaches are still to be developed and specified within the Platform project.
