Hey, not bad! Oldehippy has given you some great tips to get you started. Here are a few things you can do to make his advice work for you in a slightly different way: First, when you make your box frame, make it deep enough to pour the entire casting at once….but understand that you are NOT going to do this…at least not right away! You are making a mother mold, and the wood frame is used only to pour the form, just like with concrete foundations for homes. Take the piece to be copied and pour your morter mix to the halfway line , just as Oldehippy99 suggested. But this time, place the bottom of your master blank right up against an end wall, so that it does not get covered in morter. (This is for things like statues with flat bottoms.) You may want to screw the master directly to the end wall. IN ADDITION, take three or four, (or more) round things, like ping-pong balls, and immerse them halfway into the morter as well.
