Well, I can’t find any reports of illnesses on Roosevelt Island in the news, but I did come across one report about the artificial turf on the Roosevelt Island ball fields possibly worsening respiratory illnesses such as asthma (see 1st link, below). That sounds rather far-fetched, though, so it sounds like, since it’s a small, isolated community, it’s probably just a common germ going around, usually spread by the school children in the community. So, just take the usual precautions, wash your hands a LOT and maybe even, since you’re in New York City after all, try to use a handkerchief to touch common objects like doorknobs and handrails on stairs, etc., and you should be fine.
