I called 9-1-1 for an injury and an engine came to my home. Why wasn’t a rescue vehicle sent?
When you call 9-1-1, the operators are trained to ask “Medical Priority Dispatch” questions. The answers you provide to these questions indicate the severity of the call. If the injuries you describe fit into the BLS (Basic Life Support) category, and the nearest rescue vehicle to your location is on another call, the ALS engine may be dispatched. All of our engine companies are ALS engines, staffed by state certified paramedics, and can administer Advanced Life Support on scene.
