I collect frequency-signals, produce an FFT Analysis and would like to store the result together with the original signal as ASCII file. Why can I do that?
Only the DASYLab Format allows you to store data of different types, for example, FFT and triggered measurement data, in a file. Data that is stored in the DASYLab Format has a complete description of the data information (sampling rate, time-stamp, block size, type, etc.) and can be reconstructed true to the original when the data is re-played later. Therefore, the DASYLab Format is the best format to use to store mixed data types that you plan to re-play to analyze. The ASCII format is a linear, columnar format, which uses the first column for the optional time stamp, followed by columns of similar data. Each column must have a value. FFT data is not time-dependent data, and each block includes the frequency point as the first column, followed by the columns of amplitude data. Thus, it is not possible to mix time-dependent data with FFT block data. You can use two separate ASCII files to store your data.
