As a month-to-month tenant you are required to give the landlord thirty days notice of your intent to vacate the apartment. If you don’t, the landlord can claim some or all of your security deposit as “unpaid rent.” Since you only gave 6 days notice, the landlord could claim more than half of the security deposit.
