Your parallel port mode should be set up as SPP (Standard Printer Port), Normal or AT in your BIOS settings. Be sure that your parallel port supports IRQs. Some parallel ports have the ability to disable interrupt usage by jumper or bios settings. Others even have no interrupt line connected to the PC IRQ controller!!! In Win9x you can find it out by looking at the ressources used by the LPT-port in the device manager, if you LPT port owns an IRQ.
