I just learned my electronically filed return is going to take 4 to 6 weeks to process. Why?
Most electronically filed returns are processed within the average timeframe of 7 to 12 business days. All returns are processed through our computerized processing system, regardless of how the return is prepared, or whether it is mailed or e-filed. A return with a condition that is outside of the ability for the computer to complete processing will require manual processing. In those cases, it will take additional time for the department to issue a refund.
