As a landlord, the Council will have to be satisfied that you have an “owners interest” in the property and will have served a “minded to take action” notice indicating that works are required under sections 352 or 189 of the Housing Act 1985. You will be eligible for a 50% grant (maximum 5k) towards the cost of providing improved means of escape and various other fire precautions, electrical rewiring, improvements to the kitchen and sanitary facilities and energy efficiency improvements. The grant is made subject to conditions relating to occupancy, insurance and repair and the Council may require nomination rights for 5 years.
