In late summer of 2004 it became obvious that a 15-acre parcel of land owned by Mr.Roy Bessey and Ms. Shirley Bessey (Town of Thorndike Tax Map 1, Lot #6) was the best place to site a new school. Its dry and level nature makes it an ideal location for a large building, thus reducing site development costs. At the urging of the Department of Education the district pursued the possibility of obtaining a purchase option. Initial research revealed that the Bessey property had been placed in an agricultural conservation easement with the Maine Farmland Trust in April of 2003. At the direction of the Board of Directors, Superintendent Lee first spoke with a representative of the Maine Farmland Trust on September 16, 2004, concerning the possibility of purchasing one lot in Thorndike consisting of approximately 15 acres.
