I understand that NAEA doesn offer honoraria to members who make convention presentations. Why is that?
First, payment would violate the terms of our non-profit status as expressed in the NAEA Constitution. Also, program selection is not a commercial enterprise. Proposals are chosen because they contribute to NAEA’s mission of advancing art education through professional development. Over 1,200 proposals are submitted annually and only a little over half qualify. To be selected is an honor. Most importantly, however, payment would undermine the spirit of service and volunteerism, which distinguishes our Association.
