Answer Dear Brad, It’s sort of true. Liposuction is very effective in removing fat that is located in between the skin and the abdominal muscles, but not the fat that is behind the muscles. For reasons that are not well understood, the fat on men’s bodies is more likely to be behind the muscles (than is the case for women, where it is usually in front of the muscles). Men are, therefore, less likely to be good candidates for liposuction than are women. Of course, lots of men have lipo, and there’s usually more than enough fat in the “right” spots to make the lipo worthwhile, but that’s usually on men who are in pretty good shape and who just want to contour a few specific areas. When you’re talking about a “pot belly” it sounds like it may be a bit too extensive for lipo to work. The only way to remove it is to do it the old-fashioned way.
