The best way to get started is to import as much as possible from your existing program. Personal Finance lets you import all types of records, provided they appear in a table on a website or in an Excel file. If you can obtain a list of your accounts and stocks/mutual funds, import these first. You can also enter these names when you import your balances and investment positions next. Import your bank/credit card/line of credit balances for a convenient start date in the recent past, then import any transactions which occur after the start date. Import your investment positions for a start date in the recent past. If you have positions in a foreign currency, you’ll need to know the rate of exchange. You’ll also need to know the adjusted cost base for each position in your home currency – usually this is $CDN. Your existing software may be able to provide this information.
