There are some differences between the campus service and the CS service. For example, the CS service requires use of an SSL encrypted connection. See the setup docs in the main section of the IMAP docs for more details, but generally speaking all you should have to do is point your email client to imap1.cs.unc.edu and enable TLS/SSL.
