In the entry statistics of TRANSFAC® Professional 5.2, it states that there are 1557 genes, but according to my script, there are 1906 unique geneACs in the gene table. Why is there a difference?

In total there are 1906 gene entries in the gene table of TRANSFAC® 5.2, but for the statistics we counted only those for which regulatory sites or factors (as gene products) are present in TRANSFAC®. Currently the remaining gene entries are only really meaningful in connection with our other databases, and thus were not taken into account for the TRANSFAC® statistics.
