Is a gay-straight alliance necessary at The Catholic University of America?
A significant number of students at the Catholic University of America currently do not have a publicized “safe place” on campus. The Catholic Church acknowledges that discrimination towards homosexuals is a reality and it is unjust. If the Catholic Church is able to acknowledge that discrimination towards homosexuals does take place, is it reasonable to think that the Catholic University of America is a discrimination-free University? Discrimination towards GLBTQ people takes place in many forms at CUA. Whether it is the general assumption in the classroom or faculty meetings that everyone is heterosexual or the much more offensive discrimination in the form of violence or hate graffiti, CUA is not innocuous in these offenses.
