OK, it is not actually Network Monitoring, more application monitoring. I need to monitor the event logs on Windows servers and forward certain events to a central location. Some events I will need to generate an alert, some events I will just log and run reports to graph trends over time or use for troubleshooting. I will not have direct access to the servers as they will be behind firewalls. We need to avoid punching into the firewall. The servers will have outbound access to The Internet and would be able to have an agent installed on them which would forward the required events to a central management console which would be hosted. The management console would generate the alerts and integrate with our helpdesk platform (Frontrange HEAT) to create trouble tickets. The management console would have a graphical screen which would be displayed on an LCD screen or Plasma. We would also access the graphical display via Web Browser from any location.
