It remains unclear who made the decision to pull the app, though, with both Apple and the app’s developer claiming responsibility. The app, called “Hottest Girls” was the first explicit app to land in the App Store, taking advantage of Apple’s new ratings system built in to the new iPhone 3.0 software. The “Hottest Girls” app was labeled “17+,” with a rating that it contained “Frequent/Intense Sexual Content or Nudity.” The words from the rating are Apple’s own — so it would seem that the company has given the okay to explicit apps.
