Is British and American humour really that different?

Personally i find American humour very in your face and obvious. it doesn’t have any undertone to be figured out and it’s mostly face value. What you see and hear is exactly what it is. However The British tend to use more subtle humour that needs to be thought about in order to grasp the full meaning. We also use a lot of sarcasm, satire and inuendo’s in our comedy’s and the humour is usually an undertone in the the situation which has to be picked up upon whereas American comedy’s offer none of this and it is dedicated to humour 100%, this isn’t always a good thing. The British also tend to be quite macabre and use a fair amount of black humour whereas the Americans tend to avoid this. Something also adressed regularly within British comedy is the class system and stereotyping, this is showed in programmes such as “Only Fools and Horses” and “The Royale Family”. Obviously Both British and Americans use familiar situations to involve the viewer with something they can relate to. This
