The answer here completely depends on the individual involved. Some people’s BDSM is intricately caught up in their sexuality in such a way that they cannot fathom playing with another they would not have sex with. Others are able to enjoy BDSM play sexually without intercourse. Others say they do not need it to be sexual at all. For example a person who sexualizes pain and can orgasm from pain does not need sex, the pain play is enough. It is an individual preference that each must explore and find out for themselves.
